Thinky day today, I guess. Work was kind of tyring, mostly just having to do with reports (though it'd probably be very, very bad if it was for another reason, considering that's what I do). For two of them it was just little things that I had to change, but for one of them it's a problem with the site itself. I'm not gonna go into details on the site here but it's an issue that would require either practically redesigning the site or actually redesigning the site and moving an entire antenna sector.
I had the thought of talking about Magic the Gathering and me quitting it. I originally thought it was gonna be short but it wound up being this whole thing so here we go. It just had to do with the announcements they had during I think worlds, about how every Universes Beyond (i.e. crossover) set would be part of Standard going forwards, and how the game was gonna alternate between UB sets and in-universe sets, and how one of those in-universe sets was this. It's like this space opera setting that's fucking "outside the Blind Eternities" and that's what really broke me I think because what the actual fuck. It just kinda feels like a betrayal of what the game is. Like the worldbuilding in Magic is one of its strongest assets as an IP and integral to how the game is set up and fucking works and here they are basically setting their last three decades of work on fire. Most of the higher-up people working on Magic have been working on the game for fucking decades, this isn't new blood fucking up, this is the old blood changing what the game is, and I just kinda hate it. I could deal with UB before, but the combination of all of that just broke me. And it kinda sucks because I didn't really wanna quit Magic and I still honestly kinda don't but between not playing the game and engaging with it as it is the former just hurts less than the latter. I haven't kept up with anything Magic related since I quit and I don't really plan on changing that soon. I still don't really have plans for selling my cards but I'll likely sell some of them, probably not all of them. I have bulk that I've been meaning to get rid of for years anyway that has just piled up. That should obviously be the first to go.
