I'm now on my third character in my CK3 playthrough. I've been bungling a few things (I let a faction become a huge problem that almost caused civil war at one point, but then I resolved it by just making a title and giving it to someone), and one of the court members fucking murdered most of my children (I have more now!), but it's been going well. I got the "become a conqueror" event towards the end of the second character's life, and just invaded the kingdom to the north to try and found the Russian empire, because otherwise I'd lose at least one kingdom containing a holy site I need in order to reform my faith. The first time I got stomped and reloaded, but I decided to give it one more try and managed to capture the enemy commander in the very first fight, meaning I pretty much won instantly, letting me found the Russian empire and keep all my territory (because the other heir would now be my vassal instead of another ruler). I was also worried about my heir having the Cynic trait (which lowers piety gain), but it turns out that not only did he take the entire theology learning tree, but Cynic also halves the cost of reforming your faith, meaning Cynic was the single best possible trait he could have. If it didn't halve the cost I'd just barely be halfway to having enough faith.
